The driving test will last about 40 minutes and you will have to show your ability to carry out a number of skills such as reversing around a corner, doing a turnabout, a hill start, changing lanes and performing some basic hand signals. You will also be asked to identify parts of the engine and to demonstrate your knowledge of the controls inside the car. You will drive in a variety of different road conditions covering junctions, roundabouts, mini-roundabouts, traffic lights and other types of roads so the tester can make an informed decision as to what kind of driver you are. At the end you will finish at the test centre where the tester will bring you inside the test centre and give you your result. The tester will be polite but professional.
On the day of the test you must arrive before your appointed time and ensure that your car is in reasonably good condition. You could use your own car or your Driving Instructors car. You must also make sure the vehicle is taxed, insured and has a valid NCT if required. You must not forget your learner permit which must be in date and at least 6 months old.
