I am a Driving Instructor in Wexford town offering Driving Lessons for category B, cars and light vans.  I am a fully qualified, approved driving instructor registered with the RSA.  I will make you a more confident, safer driver for life at a fantastic price.

Beginner DriverEDT means essential driver training.  If you received your learner permit on or after 4th April 2011 then you must get 12 driving lessons from an approved driving instructor before you are allowed do a driving test.  Your learner permit must also be at least 6 months old before you can sit a test.  The first 8 lessons should have a 2 week gap between lessons and the final 4 can be taken in any order.  The 2 week break allows for practise time.  They should be spread out over 6 months.  EDT will cover the following areas-

Lesson 1:  Car controls and safety checks

Lesson 2:  Correct positioning 1

Lesson 3:  Changing direction

Lesson 4:  Progression management

Lesson 5:  Correct positioning 2

Lesson 6:  Anticipation and reaction

Lesson 7:  Sharing the road

Lesson 8:  Driving safely through traffic

Lesson 9:  Changing direction in more complex situations

Lesson 10:  Speed management

Lesson 11:  Driving calmly

Lesson 12:  Night driving

While all these aspects of EDT mentioned above sound very glamorous and official they can be a bit broad and general.  Here is my lesson plan.  I will cover all of what is required in EDT and much more-

  • Increase your knowledge of the theory and rules of the road including road signs
  • Car controls and safety checks
  • Starting, stopping and changing gears properly
  • EDTThe importance of clutch control
  • Being able to reverse properly
  • Turning left and right
  • Correct positioning on the road and when turning
  • Changing lanes and overtaking
  • Being able to park beside the kerb and move off properly
  • Roundabouts and crossroads
  • Dealing with hills
  • Driving competently on rural roads
  • Driving competently on national roads
  • Driving competently around the town
  • Understanding traffic lights and filter lights
  • Taking proper observation and using mirrors effectively
  • Dealing efficiently with hazards and parked cars
  • Understanding the dangers of blind junctions
  • Signalling correctly
  • Driving at the appropriate speed to suit certain road conditions
  • Night driving
  • Reverse around a corner
  • Turnabout
  • Parking properly in a space
  • Independent driving where you drive without my assistance
  • A commentary drive where you talk about what you see on the road
  • Emergency stop

I must stress that I cannot guarantee to cover every one of the above points as it does depend on the time I have with you.  My main objective is to give you a wide variety of driving skills not just cover what you will encounter on the driving test.
