Are you a new driver beginning the daunting task of attempting to drive a car for the first time? Then this blog post will help you. Think of the word FACT, first gear, acceleration, clutch up slowly and take off. If you follow and practise these steps then you will be able to move off smoothly and with confidence.
F means put in the clutch and go to first gear, next is A which is to accelerate gently until the revs counter reaches 1500, then hold it there. Next is C, bring up the clutch until you feel the bite, which is a lift on the car that indicates the car is ready to move. Hold the bite steady when you find it. T is take off and time, take off the handbrake and if you have a good bite, then the car will move forward but hold the feet very still for 5 seconds as the car moves off. If you keep the feet steady for 5 seconds then the car will take off smoothly.
